Purpose
Utility Electrician will be responsible for operation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of all electrical systems and utility equipment at the manufacturing site. This role requires hands-on expertise in 33kV / HT systems, LT distribution, transformers, DG, UPS, VCB/ACB, motors, VFDs, and building management controls. The electrician must ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operation of all electrical utilities as per statutory requirements and plant SOPs.

Job Responsibilities / Deliverables
HT/LT Electrical Distribution
• Operate 33kV substation safely as per switching procedures.
• Maintain HT panels, RMUs, transformers and protection systems.
• Troubleshoot HT/LT faults and restore power with minimum downtime.
• Maintain LT PCC/MCC panels, DBs and control circuits.
• Log all HT/LT parameters as per statutory compliance.
Operation & Maintenance of Utility Equipment
• Carry out operation and preventive maintenance of Transformers (Oil/Dry Type).
• Operate and maintain DG sets – electrical side troubleshooting.
• Maintain UPS systems, battery health, and power backup circuits.
• Support chiller, HVAC panel, and AHU electrical controls.
• Assist boiler electrical operations and burner control wiring.
• Maintain electrical controls for PWS pumps and utility motors.
• Perform regular checks and maintenance of Diesel Generators (DG sets).
• Maintain UPS systems, inverters, battery banks, and power backup health.
• Carry out preventive and breakdown maintenance of Chillers and HVAC electrical panels.
• Support Boiler electricians in panel troubleshooting & burner control wiring.
• Manage electrical side of PWS (Purified Water System), pumps, valves, control panels.
• Read and interpret power circuit diagrams, control wiring diagrams, panel GA drawings.
• Ensure proper illumination, emergency lighting, and earthing system integrity.
Electrical Machines & Control Systems
• Maintain and troubleshoot Motors (HT/LT), starters, soft starters, VFDs.
• Diagnose faults related to overload, earth fault, short circuit, phase imbalance, etc.
• Replace burnt components, contactors, relays, fuses, overload relays, and wiring.
• Ensure proper alignment, insulation resistance, and earthing for motors.
• Maintain VCB/ACB for tripping, interlock, and relay issues.
PLC, BMS, DCS & Instrumentation Interface
• Assist in fault-finding related to PLC I/O modules, sensors, actuators, solenoids.
• Work with automation team for panel-level wiring, analog / digital signal tracing.
• Support in maintaining BMS panels, AHU control wiring, differential pressure sensors.
• Carry out basic troubleshooting of DCS control loops and field device connections.
• Replace transmitters, limit switches, RTDs, flow switches as needed.
Preventive & Predictive Maintenance
• Execute PM schedules for all electrical and utility equipment.
• Conduct IR tests, continuity, relay testing, contact resistance testing, insulation health checks.
• Follow OEM guidelines for maintenance of HT/LT gear.
• Identify early warning signals and prevent electrical failures.
• Maintain spare parts and critical components availability.
GMP, Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain maintenance records as per GDP and ALCOA+ principles.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards: Schedule-M, WHO-GMP, MHRA, USFDA.
• Support equipment qualification activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) when required.
• Lead maintenance-related change controls
• Record all maintenance activities in job cards, logbooks
• Maintain history cards for key equipment and motors.
Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement
• Implement 5S, Kaizen, TPM, problem-solving techniques in daily work.
• Participate in Kaizen events and contribute to energy-saving initiatives.
• Recommend improvements in distribution, monitoring, and safety.
Qualifications Education:
• ITI / Diploma in Electrical Trade (mandatory).
• Valid HT/LT Wireman License issued by State Government Licensing Board (mandatory).
Additional notes Skills & Competencies
• Strong knowledge of HT/LT distribution, control circuits, and safety practices.
• Ability to read & interpret electrical and control schematics.
• Basic understanding of PLC, DCS, BMS, and instrument wiring.
• Enforce safety requirements during maintenance work (PTW, LOTO, PPE).
